The death toll in the anti-government protests in Venezuela has risen to 36 by Monday, the 24th of March 2014. The latest set of casualties includes a pregnant woman in the capital Caracas and a soldier in the Western state of Merida. Casualties have been reported from both the security forces and also from the protesting group. The protests have been going on for a month, which is now regarded as the worst unrest in a decade. The woman was shot at as she was getting out of the bus that hit a barricade set up by the protesters. In the Western state of Merida, a national sergeant had been shot in the neck during clashes. The sergeant was admitted to a hospital, where he passed away. The striking demonstrators from both sides have been using barricades as an effective weapon for their protests. Members of the security forces have come under fire for trying to dismantle the barricades.
