A new study conducted by the American Enterprise Institute on the retirement income has come out with findings that the public sector employees would earn more retirement income than the private sector employees. The study compared the total retirement income of the private sector employees and the public sector employees including the Social Security benefits across the 50 states in United States and had arrived at this result. Full time public sector employees earn the maximum retirement income in all the states where this study was conducted. Another important finding of the study is the varying retirement income levels among the public sector employees with different service lengths.

The report comes with a finding that a full time public sector employee would be earning an income that is more than 72% of the full time private sector employees working in that particular state. In states like Oregon, West Virginia, California and Nevada, the figures are much more higher with the public sector employees earning retirement income that is substantially more than 90% of the public sector employees. The report also states that the study had excluded the potential sources of additional income for public sector employees such as the retiree health coverage benefits.
